Eligibility


To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Permanent Residency: You must have been a permanent resident of Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) out of the 5 years immediately before the date you apply.

  • Physical Presence in Canada: Within the 5 years before applying, you must have been physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years). Of these, 365 days must be within the last year before you apply.

  • Tax Filing: You must have filed your taxes for at least 3 years within the 5-year period, if required under the Income Tax Act.

  • Language Proficiency: You need to demonstrate adequate knowledge of English or French if you are between 18 and 54 years old when you apply.

  • Knowledge of Canada: You must have adequate knowledge of Canada and the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship.
